Design of 3D Macrocellular Ceramics for CO2 Photoreduction

Since solar power is an infinite energy source at our time-scale, the solar-driven reduction of CO2 with H2O into chemicals and fuels by metal oxide photocatalysts is considered as a promising approach to address the problems of forthcoming global warming and energy crisis. In this context, this PhD aims at developing original photocatalytic silica-based 3D-materials by addressing each aforementioned photo-process common issues : (1) light harvesting (2) generated charges separation and transportation and (3) surface reactions. It also aims at the elaboration of a new experimental set-up incorporating the optimized 3D-materials in order to validate the performance of the 3D character of the photocatalytic process at the larger scale.
