Design of structure switching aptasensors for the detection of contaminants.

PhD IN CHEMISTRY, STARTING FALL 2019, BORDEAUX

A huge number of chemicals are released in the environment, worldwide every year. In particular many of the several hundreds of pesticides used to control or destroy various pests are considered to be environmental contaminants and constitute a threat for living organisms. They can lead to serious health problems for human beings such as asthma, chronic disorders and neurological diseases. The analysis of samples for the detection of pesticides generally rely on laboratory methods such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry that require expansive equipment and trained personnel, not appropriate for on site analysis. Our project takes advantage of structure-switching and light-up properties of aptamers for the functional selection of signaling aptamers targeting pesticides. We will generate, screen and select in microfluidics libraries of aptamers sequences for the detection of target molecules. The project will be done in close collaboration with J.-J. Toulmé at Novaptech.
